Attorneys
ALAN S. ZIMMET graduated in 1977 Cum Laude from Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. In 1980 he received his J.D. with honors from the George Washington University National Law Center in Washington, D.C. After graduating from law school, Mr. Zimmet worked for the United States Department of Labor. He began his practice in Clearwater in 1984 when he became an Assistant City Attorney for Clearwater. In 1987, he entered private practice. Shortly thereafter, he became City Attorney for the City of Tarpon Springs and General Counsel for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority. Mr. Zimmet was awarded an AV rating by Martindale Hubbell. He also is board-certified by the Florida Bar in the area of city, county and local government law and specializes in local governmental law. Mr. Zimmet also practices in the areas of land use, construction litigation, real estate and corporate law. He presently is General Counsel for the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority and City Attorney for the City of Safety Harbor and the City of Largo. Most recently, Mr. Zimmet has been concentrating on handling construction litigation, land use and real estate matters for the firm's developer clients, citizen groups and governmental clients. He is a certified mediator and trained arbitrator. Mr. Zimmet has written articles for and spoken to organizations such as the Florida League of Cities, the Public Risk and Insurance Management Society, State of Florida Division of Elections, the Public Risk Management Association, the National Institute of Municipal Law Offices, Stetson Law School and at Florida Bar Seminars to prepare for board certification exams.
